Remarkable artistic achievement by Alfred Borrel (France 1836/1927) portraying F.llo Victor Hugo.

Alfred Borrel studied in Paris at the Lycée Saint-Louis , then entered the École des beaux-arts de Paris in François Jouffroy's studio in 1855. He was also a pupil of his father Maurice Borrel and Louis Merley .
In 1860 he was awarded the first second Grand Prix of Rome for engraving medals and fine stones on the theme: A triumphant warrior places a palm on the altar of the god Mars .
He is a member of the Society of French Artists . He was awarded a third class medal in 1880, first class in 1896 and silver at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 .
Borrel was appointed Chevalier de Saint-Maurice in 1864 and received the Palms of Academy Officer in 1881. He was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1906.
He resided at n° 6 rue Monge in Paris.
